Traditional Dress for Parade Day

Parade participants traditionally wear their respective folk costumes (bunader), business suits, or Norwegian sweaters. You might even see Sami folk costumes from Northern Norway.

Spectator Gear
We realize that not everyone has a bunad laying around, but thats no reason to stifle your Syttende Mai spirit! Try to find that Norwegian sweater you have buried in your closet (or even just a red t-shirt!) and pick up a Norwegian flag to wave to the parade participants as they pass by.

Bunad
A bunad is a traditional Norwegian costume that reflects the region the wearer is from. If you would like to learn more about bunads and see beautiful examples of regional variations, visit the Husfliden Web site.
